The cosmetic industry is growing at an incredible rate, with new products and formulas appearing on the market every day. Whilst variety is the spice of life, whittling it down to a product you actually need can be a challenge. Normally we judge a product by what it’s called, but the name of a product doesn’t always give you the information you need.

One product that is rising in popularity within the male market is BB cream. Even though it’s been around for a number of years, it’s not a product many men will know about.

So, what actually is a BB cream?

BB cream, also known as beauty balm or blemish base, is a hybrid skincare and cosmetic product. It can act as a moisturiser, foundation and even a skin protector. It has a number of benefits, but the main aim of the product is typically to even out skin tone and cover any noticeable blemishes.

Why do I need one?

If you struggle with an uneven skin tone, irritated skin, or even just want to enhance your natural look, you might be in need of a BB cream. It’s for the man who wants to look like himself, but better. Even if you’re looking to reduce the time you spend with your skincare or grooming routine, a BB cream can act as a multi-purpose product and really reduce the amount of products you apply.

How do I use it?

It actually couldn’t be easier. I know that whenever men think of applying make up, it can seem like a seriously daunting task. But luckily, BB cream is designed to be easy to apply. There are a couple of tips and tricks you can use to ensure you get the most natural look.

Step 1: Apply a pump of product onto the back of your hand, rather than onto your fingertips.

What this does is allow you to gradually apply the product to your face. Remember, you can always add more, but it’s difficult to remove the product once you’re applied it.

Step 2: Apply to your problem areas first.

If you have an area of your skin that is redder than the rest, start there. If there’s an area that has more uneven texture, start there. Take a bit of product from the back of your hand, and pat it onto the skin.

Step 3: Blend, blend, blend.

It’s perfectly acceptable to blend the product into your skin using your fingertips. (Just make sure they’re clean.) However, I find that the way to get the most natural look is by using a brush. Once the product is on your skin, use a blending brush and buff in circular motions.

It’s really that simple! Because BB Cream is lighter in texture, it’ll sink straight into your skin. If you find that you’re looking for more coverage, you can go over the problem areas with a concealer, or switch it up for a foundation.

One thing I love about a BB cream is that whenever I wear it, no one actually knows! It’s a subtle product that simply enhances your natural look and smooths out the appearance of uneven skin tone.
